Play and Pray for Japan
Calling all Japanee who live in Belgium, and to all our friends throughout the world, from Yuzuko Horigome, violinist.
I gave a concerto in Minami-Soma, Sendai, just one week before the terrible earthquake. Watching the television at my parents' home in Tokyo, I saw the tranquil land being devastated by the terrible tsunami. Even in Tokyo we felt a shock so strong that we could not remain standing. Two weeks after the earthquake, secondary shocks continue to shake the surface of the entire region.
The desperate battle at the nuclear centre of Fukushima Daiichi continues. Why do we in Japan have to submit once again to so great a danger of radiation ? I am angry, and can only pray for the safety of the personnel of the nuclear centre, of those who have survived and for the inhabitants in the area of the centre.
In Tokyo, many feel it is best to maintain a voluntary reserve and not to organise a concert. Others, however, show that they do not want to forsake the spiritual peace that music can give.
For my part, I am returning to Japan on 12th April for another concert. I hope that as many people as possible in Belgium can attend this concert and participate in this musical contemplation.
“Play and Pray for Japan”
I would like to thank Martha Argerich who will also take part in our Concert for Japan.
